The story was not long on actual quotes from the involved parties, but it was also rather short on condescension and anti-cyclist comments. There's a lot of video footage from my old 2006-2007 CM youtube flicks to fill it out, and a bunch of you older riders might recognize yourselves:

He was cool when the ride went there right after.
And besides, he's given himself the difficult task of promoting cycling overall -- not just a small group. Critical Mass is only a small part of the overall picture. And he's not just talking to the cyclists, he's talking to the motorists, to everybody.
And he's right. Whatever the guy did, messing up his truck was wrong and illegal. We're allowed to defend ourselves, as is he, but whacking his truck with U-locks doesn't really count. (Unfortunately, pulling out a gun *does* count, and that's why he's not in jail.)
If the guy wanted to do a hit and run, the thing to do would be to get his plate, take pictures, let him go, call the cops, follow him if we can. With dozens of witnesses and pictures and possibly video, the police would probably take it seriously. But with people beating on his car, that just gives him justification to try to run and pull out a gun, and makes sure a jury is very unlikely to convict him for whatever he did.
this didnt happen on lavaca, it happened coming off guad on 5th. and furthermore, sharrows dont require cyclists to use the side lanes but merely remind cars that cyclists belong on the street and encourage cyclists to stay to the sides when practicable.
