By Jason - Posted on 20 August 2010

08/21/2010 - 7:30am

Just got another flyer for Jed's Saturday morning ride. Awesome:

7:30AM at Maria's. Eat a taco, ride your bike.

Come Join Us For a Ride! ...and some badminton?

By Jason - Posted on 12 August 2010

08/14/2010 - 7:30am

A fellow named Jed sent me a ride invite and holy shit, his flyer rules:

And it's a SOUTH SIDE event nonetheless! 7:30AM THIS Saturday at Maria's Taco Express. The pace sounds like a solid Heavy Metal Fitness Ride B group, and the route is 40 miles so make sure you've got your legs, some lights, hydration and all the gear you need to fix a flat.

If nothing else, go for the ostriches! And the badminton.

Audrey Fox's birthday and LISA FRANK BIKE RIDE!

By Jason - Posted on 23 July 2010

07/25/2010 - 8:00pm

I didn't forget, Ms. Fox! I'm just a slacker...

Think you've got enough cheesy stickers on your bike? Think again, because this Sunday at 8pm Audrey Fox is celebrating her 23rd trip around the Sun with a Lisa Frank Bike Ride! Holy shit, I'd totally forgotten about this stuff...

Come celebrate my 23rd birthday with a neon, glitter and beer fueled bike ride around the east side. It ends in a party at Rio Rita and then an after party at my place for you non bikers too.

Wear your brightest and sparkliest duds (that you don't mind getting wet).

RSVP for your spoke card!

8pm this Sunday @ the intersection of Nile and Walter St, near Boggy Creek Park is the spot to be. Make sure your outfit is dazzling.

BRIZM NATION Presents: The Pants Off Dance Off and Shirt Cockin' Ride! THIS SATURDAY!

By Jason - Posted on 13 July 2010

07/17/2010 - 8:00pm

I haven't gotten enough (aka. "any") press out about this event, but there's a BIG THING happening this weekend which combines my 3 favorite topics: bikes, dancing, and not wearing pants. That's right y'all, it's the Pants Off Dance Off/Shirt Cockin' Ride and it happens THIS SATURDAY!

Mark your calendars, stretch your legs, and start picking out your favorite pair of panties because BRIZM NATION is proud to announce OUR FIRST OFFICIAL EVENT... the PANTS OFF DANCE OFF!

Rising like a slippery, hot phoenix from the ashes of Booty Bounce Austin, BRIZM NATION is the newest sensation in butt-shaking recreation. If you were at the already infamous Titty Bop, Booty Drop at Empire, you've had a just tiny taste of the hijinks to come. To everyone that missed out on the nudity and public ludity, don't make the same mistake twice.

PANTS OFF! DANCE OFF!
The name says it all!
Hosted by MISS PRISCILLA
Will there be pants? Highly discouraged!
What about a dance off? With $50 cash prize my good sir!
What kind of music? DJs Disco Tits and Fndmntl Jason will be taking us beyond bounce to newly discovered worlds of auditory ass-shaking.
But what about live music? Have no fear! We've got a full set of NOLA style madness from super freaks Jean Eric.
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000834445175
http://www.myspace.com/jeanerichits

$5 if you're bare below the belt.
$7 for prudes and never-nudes (or modest money bags. We love you too!)
21+ because we're too hot for teens.
10PM-3AM so you can still shake it for an hour after hours!

Ride in with the rowdy posse of the Shirt-Cockin' It bike ride (see atxbs.com for deets) or just show up, under-dressed to impress!

BRIZM NATION: WE are the party... ALL of us!
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=392634707288&ref=ts

The ride meets at 8pm on the Lamar Pedestrian bridge. The ONLY rule we have for the event is NO PANTS! That's right chilluns' we're gonna be representing the Briz Nation Donald Duck style! After meeting up we're going to cruise on over to the Barton Springs free swim where there'll be competitions for free entrance into the Pants Off Dance Off, where besides being able to shake your ass and get nasty you'll also compete for a $50 cash prize for best dancer!

This weekend is going to rule, I assure you. Still not convinced? Click the big play button for a PROMO VIDEO:

Holy fuck. Briz nation fo' life! See y'all on the bridge this Saturday. I'll have the tunes in tow.

Side Saddle 2 All-ladies Alleycat!

By Jason - Posted on 24 June 2010

07/03/2010 - 2:00pm

We're slightly over a week away from one of my favorite-by-proxy Alleycats, Side Saddle II!

Why by proxy, you may ask? Well, because as much fun as this one looks, it's ONLY for the ladies...

Alleycat for the ladies. Come ride that bike against all your lady friends! We'll have two races, a 10 mile and a 20 mile depending on how much you want to sweat. Oh and did I mention? You gotta wear that swimsuit, you're gonna get soaked. Also there will be a swimsuit costume competition for those who want to show off their rad suits.
$7 entry fee

Oh and sweet after party where the gents are allowed. 5315 Ave F.

That's right all y'all fine female cyclists, for only $7 you can compete against your fellow ladies (is that right?) for prizes, glory, and a years' worth of bragging rights. For those of you concerned about racing against some of the zippier or fitter members of the fairer sex, they're even putting together a shorter course as an alternative to the ~20 mile race. NICE!

Registration starts at 2pm, Saturday July 3rd, on the free side of Barton Springs near the canoe rentals. $7 will get you registered and in the competition, and be sure to wear something you can get wet in. Like all proper competitions this one also includes a swim suit so be sure to consider that fact in your choice of attire.

Oh yeah, and there's an after-party that the fellas can attend, so nobody gets TOTALLY left out. The address for the after-party is 5315 Avenue F, which is JUST around the corner from all the dope indie shops on North Loop. There'll be hot dogs, veggie dogs, all the mustard you'd ever want, water balloons, and of course the SWIMSUIT COMPETITION for all the ladies, plus any gents brave enough to challenge.

ALL proceeds go to the Mothers Milk Bank of Austin, so feel free to give more than $7 if you feel so inclined, but please keep it to monetary donations won't you? If you want to give body fluids I'd suggest talking directly to the bank.

Austin World Naked Bike Ride 2010 (and booty bounce)!

By Jason - Posted on 11 June 2010

06/12/2010 - 7:00pm

Update: The Onion AV Club just published an article on tomorrow's World Naked Bike Ride! NICE!

Also for people who followed the link here from The Onion, here's the new and Safe(r) For Work flyer:

Thanks for the article Devon, and for the flyer Corinne! Remember folks, TOMORROW IS THE DAY! Be at Pease Park at 7pm if you want to do some body painting, or at 8pm if you want to ride like you are. Also, I don't know if I'm gonna be able to come up with enough body paint for ALL the masses, so if you've got some to spare BRING IT!

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hey folks, we're just a little over a week from the international World Naked Bike Ride, and it's about time Austin got back in the game as far as hosting an event goes, so here it is, the Austin World Naked Bike Ride (AND BOOTY BOUNCE!):

Sorry for the shitty flyer, a better one is being worked on by someone MUCH more artistic than I.

This bare-as-you-dare (nude or not) bike ride is an international clothing-optional event to protest oil dependency, exhibit our right to the road as vulnerable users and celebrate the beauty of the human form in a body-positive way. Join cyclists from all around the world by taking part in this annual celebration of bike (and human-powered) culture. Feel free to wear as little as you're comfortable in, paint your body, ride a bike, ride a board, rollerskate, bring a banner, instruments, music makers, streamers, but most importantly, bring YOURSELF and ALL your friends! Meet at Pease Park before the ride for body painting, music, and fun. Following the ride there WILL be a BOOTY BOUNCE Dance Party at Empire (near 7th and Red River).

The plan is to meet up Saturday, June 12th at 7pm if you want to get painted, or 8pm if you're ready to ride. We'll be gathering near the picnic tables at Pease Park, aka. right here:

From there we'll take a short ride around town, stopping here and there to celebrate being awesome, before finally pulling in at the Titty Pop Booty Drop dance party!

Oh yeah, and there's now a Facebook Event for all of y'all who can't go to something without RSVPing for all your friends to see. So go do it!

THIS SATURDAY: The SoCo Shootout! HOLY FUCK! This race is gonna be awesome.

By Jason - Posted on 31 May 2010

06/05/2010 - 1:00pm

I know I should have posted this one sooner but I'm happy to report that I've been seeing posters for this thing EVERYWHERE, so the word's definitely been getting out. This Friday is the race to end all races, the event to end all events: THE SOCO SHOOTOUT!

Robert Lopez put this thing together and he's been able to scare up a whole slew of awesome prize and afterparty support Here's what he has to say about the style and substance behind the event, as well as some good words on the afterparty (flyer follows):

my name is robert lopez. the soco shootout bike race is my brain child with a portion of all $5 entry fees going to benefit the low-cost, local animal clinic - Emancipet. Following the race is a sweet afterparty with music by the Universe, Entropy, and Freakstarr. Art is provided by local renaissance man Shawn Pike. The music/art afterparty is called the Nopopo Show, thus the flyer title on the second attachment. Prizes for race winners is close to being finalized, im waiting on two sponsors to see what goodies they're throwing up for the faster monkeys. When i know what they're providing, ill release those details. Registration for the race is the day of event from 1:00pm to 2:45pm, the race starts promptly at 3. A trick competition in the works is to go down at the capitol once all racers show up. A social ride follows race from capitol to spider house cafe.

While no helmet will not bar anyone from racing, those pesky dome protectors are advised. Im unofficially billing this race as the first in a series of races built around the acronym S.S.B.R. (smart social bike racing). In short: smart - dont look down all the time, be aware of surroundings, watch out for yourself / social - you can talk, but you dont have to, its alright to smile but if your race face is a constipated grimace i won't check you / bike - obvious / racing - exactly what it says, this is a race, first is faster & SMARTER than the rest. Im hoping with this race to start a small, or large, collective of fast individuals who understand that while the first person to the finish line is the winner, everyone is a loser if someone doesnt finish as a result (direct or indirect) of other racers actions. The Soco Shootout is a no police escorts, no police barricades, no flat or malfunction support style race. Waivers will be signed by all racers to avoid any legal trouble that may arise my from overt stupidity or gross negligence.

Fucking excellent. Saturday's gonna be rad, eh? And so as to not leave you in suspense over the Nopopo party, here's the flyer:

Thanks for all the goodness Robert! I can't freaking wait.
